Peter Jones was born in 1956 in Germany of Danish and American parents. His early childhood took him on extensive travels throughout Asia and by the time he was 10 he had lived in Nepal, Afghanistan, Greece, and Denmark. The longest stay was in Afghanistan where he went to the American International School in Kabul. Peter then moved with his parents to England and, after finishing high school, decided to travel on his own. He originally went to Tanzania for the summer to work with Dr. Leakey at Olduvai Gorge and Laetoli, but ended up staying for 8 years. Peter was part of the team that discovered the hominid footprints at Laetoli and was involved in their excavation and making casts.
Today, Peter owns Ndarakwai Ranch and Tanganyika Film & Safari Outfitters and has lived in Tanzania for almost 40 years. He is a published archaeologist and photographer, a film fixer, and has lead photographic safaris for many years throughout eastern & southern Africa. He is fluent in Kiswahili and speaks a bit of several other tribal languages. He found Ndarakwai Ranch in the mid 90’s and has been based there ever since, developing the wildlife resources and rehabilitating the land.
